Zenith - The new Defy Skyline

One of the most interesting new products presented during LVMH Watch Week was Zenith's Defy Skyline collection. The Defy collection was created in 1967, although in reality the House had already presented the "DEFI" line, consisting of pocket watches, in 1902. Several elements catch the eye, starting with the dial with its soleil effect (available in blue, black or silvered tones), distinguished by a motif composed of engraved four-pointed stars, a reinterpretation of the Zenith "double Z" logo of the 1960s. On the same dial, protected by a sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment, at 3 o'clock is the date display while at 9 o'clock is a counter that completes a full revolution every 10 seconds, with a reading accuracy of 1/10th of a second, reminding the wearer of the fleeting nature of time. The 41 mm case is made of steel and is topped by a 12-sided facetted bezel, harking back to the early Defy models. The screw-locked crown is personalised and contributes to the good water-resistance figure of 10 atmospheres. The movement used is the new high-frequency El Primero 3620 calibre (13 ¼'', 6.6 mm thick, 228 components, 26 jewels, 36,000 vibrations per hour, 60-hour power reserve, escapement wheel and silicon anchor), automatic mechanical and visible from the back side thanks to a sapphire crystal porthole. The watch comes with a steel bracelet, but the package also includes an additional rubber strap, in blue (for the model with a blue dial), black (for the model with a black dial) and olive green (for the model with a silver-plated dial), which can be changed without the need for special tools. The Defy Skyline thus presents itself as a new protagonist within the fierce haute horlogerie segment to which the three-sphere models belong. Do you think it will manage to win the hearts of a good number of enthusiasts?
