Venezianico presents the new Nereide Damasco, a diver water-resistant to 20 atmospheres with a 42 mm steel case and Damascus steel dial.
The inspiration behind the new Nereid Damascus by Venezianico has its roots in the history of Venice as a nerve centre of trade between East and West. Indeed, the lagoon city played a crucial role in the importation and dissemination of Damascus steel in Europe.
Although the production of this steel did not originate in Venice, its skilled craftsmen, masters in metalworking, were able to assimilate and reinterpret oriental techniques, spreading the fame of damascus steel in Europe. Thus, through trade and craftsmanship, Venice helped consolidate the reputation of damascus steel, making it a material prized for its quality and workmanship.
Hence Venezianico's rediscovery and celebration of this ancient technique. Layers of steel are superimposed, forged and beaten up to a hundred times, generating a compact and resistant structure. The result is a material with undulating veins, which emerge from the repeated casting of the alloys and make each watch unique.
In particular, it is the dial of this Nereid that is made of damask steel. Its creation is the result of a meticulous process where, once cut, the damask steel disc undergoes an acid treatment that enhances its natural veining, giving it a unique appearance. This is followed by targeted mirror polishing to emphasise the finish contrasts, giving depth to the surface. Only 0.4 mm thick, the disc is then coupled to a brass base to ensure stability and compatibility with movement.
Venezianico Nereide Damasco: fusion of tradition and innovation
This diver's model water-resistant to 200 metres is combined with a Made in Italy leather strap.
The Nereide Damasco uses a 42 mm diameter steel case, combined with a unidirectional rotating bezel with 120 clicks. The watch is powered by a Swiss automatic movement, Sellita calibre SW200-1 (28,800 vibrations per hour, 38-hour power reserve, visible from the back side closed with 6 screws), with a skeletonised rotor and decorated with a motif of côtes de Genève radial. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial, with SuperLuminova luminescent hands and indices and a date window at 3 o'clock.
The new Nereide Damascus of Venezianico is completed by an antiqued leather strap according to ancient Italian tanning techniques. However, the Canova model steel bracelet is also available on request.
