The exclusive Excellence Platine collection by Vacheron Constantin recently welcomed the Traditionnelle tourbillon chronograph, limited edition of 50. This model pays homage to the traditions of haute horlogerie with an aesthetic that is both functional and original. The case (42.5 mm in diameter), the crown, dial, buckle and strap stitching are made in platinum.

The watch is moved by the Manufacture calibre 3200, made in 2015 on the occasion of the brand's 260th anniversary, and incorporates a monopusher chronograph (coaxial to the crown) with tourbillon device. These two complications have been optimised for reliability, precision and ease of use. The dial features a generous tourbillon aperture at 12 o'clock, while the chronograph minute counter (out of 45 units) is positioned at 3 o'clock; the power reserve indicator (equal to 65 hours) is at 6 o'clock. Thanks to the sapphire glass back you can admire the aforementioned movement, with a column wheel decorated with the Maltese cross.

The 3200-calibre manufacture movement

The back reveals the beauty of the 3200 calibre, presented in 2015 on the occasion of the company's 260th anniversary.

With a thickness of only 6.7 mm, this in-house hand-wound calibre (awarded the Geneva Hallmark) beats at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour and has 292 components, and is particularly slim for such a complex watch. It also follows in the footsteps of the chronographs that forged Vacheron Constantin's reputation in the 1930s and 1940s.

The thinner structure has allowed the main plate to be skeletonised, offering a privileged view of the tourbillon device. The highly legible peripheral chapter ring bears graduations to one-fifth of a second, corresponding to the level of precision offered by the regulator. To calculate the speed in km/h on the first elapsed minute of the chronograph function, the minute track is surrounded by a tachymeter scale at base 1000 on the flange.

In addition, for this model equipped with a Vacheron Constantin has developed a lateral friction system that prevents skipping, so the seconds hand starts running smoothly when the chronograph is started. In addition, the latter is equipped with a dynamic activation system (called 'all or nothing') which prevents the seconds hand from being activated when insufficient pressure is exerted on the pusher. The chronograph Traditionnelle tourbillon Excellence Platine is combined with a strap in dark blue Mississippiensis alligator, hand-stitched with platinum and silk threads.
