The world's most adventurous archaeologist is back on the screens: on 28 June at the cinema, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny", directed by James Mangold, promises to be the latest chapter in the famous saga starring Harrison Ford. With him, the unfailing fedora, his signature brown hat, and the whip he uses as a weapon as he travels the world in search of ancient artefacts and lost civilisations, capable of overcoming numerous pitfalls.
But not only. Because along with Indy this time, in a film about time travel, there is also a special clock that punctuates his escapes each time he faces new adventures: the Boulton of Hamilton.
Hamilton has had a close association with Hollywood cinema for over 90 years and its watches have appeared in over 500 films and television series. In the new Indiana Jones film, to ensure that the watches were perfectly in keeping with the historical period of the stage costumes, designed by Joanna Johnston, the brand worked hand in hand with Ben Wilkinson, who is in charge of the set design in the film.
The Boulton is a model first launched in the 1940s. Relaunched in the 1980s, it has since been reissued in various versions. Characterising the version that appears in the Indiana Jones film is a certain vintage appeal in the Art Deco style, with a shaped case (27 x 31.6 mm) in steel with a gold PVD coating and an elegant white dial with serif-style Arabic hour markers, chemin de fer minute track, gilded brass leaf hands and small seconds at 6 o'clock.
Equipped with a mineral crystal and an alligator leather strap, it is fitted with a quartz movement (ETA 980.163). It is on sale for 775 euros.
But Indy will not be the only one wearing a Hamilton watch: for his faithful friend Renaldo, played by Antonio Banderas, a Khaki Navy Scuba in a special version.
