Ulysse Nardin: from sea to wrist

With its Diver Net concept watch, Ulysse Nardin celebrates the ninth edition of the Vendée Globe and reaffirms its commitment against marine pollution. The new watch, created for the non-stop, unassisted round-the-world yacht race starting on Sunday 8 November from Les Sables d'Olonne in the Loire Valley, is designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. The case, back and bezel are in fact decorated with recycled fishing nets, in collaboration with three young Breton designers who have created France's first fishing net recycling sector by recovering nets no longer in use from ports and transforming them into polyamide pellets, a highly friction-resistant recycled plastic. The strap is made of PET plastic from the sea, transformed into spools of thread by the Swiss company Tide. In its quest for low-impact solutions, Ulysse Nardin has also replaced the traditional sapphire crystal with a transparent ceramic glass, used with the aim of limiting energy at the time of its manufacture. Equipped with a white, grey and green dial with acid green SuperLuminova on the hour markers and hands, power reserve at 12 o'clock and date display at 6 o'clock, the Diver Net is powered by the IWC-manufactured UN-118 movement, visible through the opening in the case back.
