In 1970, Tudor launched its first chronograph, the Oysterdate, which was distinguished by its original design. The dial featured bright colours, pentagonal hour markers (reminiscent of the shape of a baseball field plate), a 45-minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock, continuous seconds at 9 o'clock and a date window at 6 o'clock. As a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the launch of its first chronograph, Tudor this year presents the new Black Bay Chrono, available with a black or opaline convex dial and concave counters in silver or black respectively, and animated by the calibre MT5813 (derived from the Breitling 01, diameter 30.4 mm, thickness 7.23 mm, 41 jewels, 28.800 vib/h, 70-hour power reserve, Cosc chronometer, -2/+4 seconds per day precision), with column wheel, vertical clutch and silicon balance spring. 
On the dial are the famous "Snowflake" hands, combined with luminescent geometric markers; note the red colouring of both the water-resistance indicator (at 6 o'clock, just above the date display, and equal to 200 metres) and the tip of the central chrono seconds hand. The crystal protecting the dial is a sapphire crystal, surrounded by an aluminium ring on which the tachymeter scale is engraved; the chrono pushers are screw-down. All the features of a thoroughbred sportsman. The watch is available with a leather cuff strap, with a steel bracelet or with a fabric strap, the latter being made on 19th century Jacquard looms by Julien Faure, a family-run business with 150 years of experience based in the St-Etienne region of France. 
The steel bracelet, for its part, draws its inspiration from the riveted folding models introduced by Tudor in the 1950s and 1960s, which became famous because of the rivets attaching the links that were visible in profile, as well as their characteristic tapered shape. These two aesthetic details have been reintroduced in the new model, which is made using the latest full-link manufacturing methods: Finally, the cuff strap in aged black leather with écru stitching and folding clasp is a tribute to the motor racing of the 1970s.
