Building on its long tradition, Longines is once again inspired by its multi-faceted history to enrich its Heritage collection. The new The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935 draws on the Swiss brand's historical links with the world of aviation. This chronograph, elegant in its vintage design, is a concentrate of performance and precision, two essential characteristics in this sector. The honey-coloured shades and the offset dial, which allows pilots to read the indications without having to leave the controls of the aircraft, illustrate Longines' watchmaking savoir-faire. It is a true tribute to the exploits of aviation pioneers: indeed, it was at the beginning of the 20th century when the Maison associated its name with pilots who, with their exploits, wrote the first chapters of aviation history. Charles Lindbergh, for example, is the first aviator to have crossed the Atlantic solo, a feat that will turn ninety in 2017. Precision and solidity were the watchwords that guided the design of the "Type A-7" watches, which had to meet extremely precise criteria, a "conditio sine qua non" to merit this label coined by the US army for these chronographs ordered from Longines in 1935. The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935 is distinguished by its dial offset by 40° to the right and displaying twelve large honey-coloured Arabic numerals. These allow perfect legibility and contrast with the glossy lacquered white dial. Finally, the "chemin de fer" minute-track facilitates the reading of the minutes. The particular orientation of the dial, designed so that the watch could be worn on the inside of the wrist, allowed pilots to read the indications without having to leave the controls of the aircraft, while the generously sized crown was designed to be easily manipulated even when wearing gloves. The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935 is therefore a model with character that combines an unprecedented design with the strictest criteria in the world of aviation when it comes to performance and precision. The 41 mm-diameter stainless steel case houses the automatic calibre L788.2, a column-wheel movement developed exclusively for Longines and enabling the various chronograph functions (start, stop and reset) to be controlled by simply pressing the pushpiece integrated in the fluted crown. Elegant pear-shaped skeleton hands in blued steel and painted honey-coloured complete the aesthetics of the timepiece. Finally, the brown alligator leather strap lends a precious touch to the ensemble.
