Micro Crystal, a company owned bySwatch Group, has launched a new ultra-high-precision real-time clock - Real time clock - with the lowest power consumption unmatched on the market.
A real-time clock is essentially a quartz clock contained on a chip, which counts real time (year, month, day, hours, minutes and seconds) in an electronic system. Its applications are very wide, for many electronic products that need to display time.
The new real time clock module, designed by Micro Crystal with the support of EM Microelectronic (a Swatch Group company) and the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM), set the following records:
is the most accurate Real Time Clock, with a deviation of +/- 0.26 seconds per day at a temperature of -40°C to 85°C. This stability is particularly required by applications in growth sectors such as outdoor security cameras and smart e-meters. Car entertainment systems are another suitable application for the module;
has the lowest power consumption of any ultra-high precision Real Time Clock, reaching 240 nanoamperes, with a battery life of 5 years. Such low consumption is crucial for many small connected objects (Internet of Things, IoT), which will be able to run for years without any battery change;
is the smallest module for Real Time Clock (3.2 x 1.5 x 0.8 mm). Size is obviously also a key feature for portable IoT devices that integrate various functions and applications.
This Real Time Clock module was produced using an innovative packaging technology developed by Micro Crystal, which seamlessly integrates the world of quartz crystals with that of integrated circuits made by Swatch Group companies Micro Crystal and EM Microelectronic.
