The Grand Seiko Spring Drive from the Masterpiece collection recalls the starry sky of the Japanese village of Achi in the Shinshu region, famous for its night-time spectacles. The deep blue dial brings out the delicate sparkle of what appear to be distant stars. Giving it an iridescent appearance depending on the angle from which it is viewed is the working technique used, which combines printing, plating and lacquering. The white gold used for the hour and minute hands and hour markers is matched by the platinum of the Zaratsu-polished case, carefully engraved with a pattern that is replicated in different directions. The mechanism is entrusted to the hand-wound Spring Drive calibre 9R02, with the 84-hour power reserve indicator located on the back of the movement next to the barrel, whose shape recalls that of the bellflower, which is the symbol of Shiojiri, located in the Shinshu region itself. The calibre also incorporates a yellow gold plate on the lower bridge, engraved with the inscription "Micro Artist", in reference to Grand Seiko's in-house workshop in Shiojiri, which is responsible for the creation of the brand's Masterpiece collection. The inscription can be replaced, if the owner so wishes, with a word of his or her choice. The timepiece will be available in a limited edition of 50 exclusively at Grand Seiko Boutiques from August 2021. Price: €80,000.
