For diving enthusiasts, there is a unique place in Iceland, with crystal-clear waters, where you can dive between two continents, Eurasia on one side, America on the other. This is the Silfra Fault, in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Thingvellir National Park.
This little underwater paradise is the inspiration for a special model in the sports collection of Seiko, Prospex, produced in 2,000 examples exclusively for the European market.
The case is the tonneau case of the Sumo line, with crown at 4 o'clock and large dimensions (45 mm diameter and 12.9 mm thick). It is made of stainless steel, with a unidirectional rotating bezel in two-tone aluminium, blue and dark green. Water resistance is guaranteed up to 200 metres.
The dial, with its anti-reflective sapphire crystal, recalls the colours of Silfra's purest water, known for its incredible nuances: the dark blue hue of the background opens towards the centre in a lighter shade with a suggestive effect evoking the cracks in the ocean straits. Hourmarkers and hands are coated with Lumibrite for optimal legibility.
The movement is the automatic calibre 6R35, with 21,600 vibrations per hour, 70 hours of power reserve and resistant to magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m (60 gauss): a very reliable 'motor' already in use on numerous references currently in production.
This Prospex edition comes with a steel bracelet with a triple folding clasp with safety button to prevent accidental release and with an extension system so it can be worn comfortably over a wetsuit. The special case enclosing the timepiece also includes an additional interchangeable blue silicone strap.
