Since 2016, Seiko's Presage collection has been recognised for highlighting different forms of Japanese aesthetic expression and craftsmanship in its creations. Recently, two new watches have been introduced within the collection that, for the first time in its history, are equipped with a Spring Drive movement. The Spring Drive movement expresses the passage of time with its seconds hand moving in a smooth and silent motion, and its innovative mechanism manifests Seiko's expertise in high technology and craftsmanship. The enamel dial has a simple, modern design, reflecting the philosophy of one of the pioneers of Japanese design, the late Riki Watanabe (who passed away in 2013), with whom Seiko collaborated on several projects in the past. To create these watches, Seiko worked with a long-time colleague of Watanabe's and a great friend of his, to whom he passed on the creative direction of his work. The movement, materials and design of these watches reflect the highest level of Japanese craftsmanship and beauty, giving rise in the Presage collection to a new form of expression of the mastery of the craftsmen of the rising sun. The dials are created by master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his collaborators to ensure that each disc has the exact shape and line of the watch face. They are available in two colours, black and white, and each requires a specific enamel application process, which is only achieved through the skill and sensitivity of the master craftsman. Thanks to this special enamel, the dials take on a unique lustre and warmth, and a deep, natural charm. The Presage team worked closely with Riki Watanabe's historical collaborators to create a dial that embodies the Master's design philosophy. The latter is based on the pursuit of timeless values and includes an attention to detail visible in every aspect of the watches. The creations reveal a modern, clean style, without excessive decoration on the dial and case, destined to be appreciated over time. The Didoni font, a favourite of Riki Watanabe, the double-curved sapphire crystal case with super-transparent coating and the sharp colour contrast between the dial, hands and numerals enhance the readability of the watches and represent a perfect balance between beauty and clarity. The two new watches are equipped with the Spring Drive calibre 5R65, which offers an accuracy level of +/-1 second per day and a 72-hour power reserve. The movement is visible through the glass applied to the case back. Both versions show the power reserve indicator at 8 o'clock and the date at 3 o'clock. The case is made of steel with an extra-hard coating to maintain its aesthetic characteristics for a long time. The watches are available in Seiko boutiques and at selected retailers worldwide.
