Below is the letter in which he gives some interesting details of the realisation of his works...
Dear Director,
I am a craftsman who, based on an idea, is building one-of-a-kind scale reproductions of prestige wristwatches, picture versions to hang on the wall and whole versions to place on a piece of furniture.
I started out with this idea more than two years ago, building prototypes to highlight all the possible problems of the various stages of working on scale reproductions.
Based on the assumption that high-end watches in themselves are 'little' masterpieces of art to wear on the wrist, given my passion for watches and my profession as a model maker, I wanted to create perfect one-off reproductions by enlarging the watch to a perfect 4:1 scale, thus creating artistic transpositions placed in a picture frame, to be enjoyed in one's home or office.
All the details are drawn by hand, taking everything from the real watch and then modelling it by hand with Ciba's 'Ureol' material, while stone pine wood is used for the strap.
The dial and hands are made of brass, while for safety reasons, milled or moulded Plexiglas is used to reproduce the glass, depending on the reproduction requirements, and then polished by hand. The most complex and demanding part is still the chrome-plating or gold-plating of the watch using a galvanic system.
The reproduction is only ever functional as a timepiece; for the mechanism, the customer can choose either a silent quartz movement that is extremely easy to handle, or a mechanical one, which will, however, give the customer the arduous task of having to rewind it, as he will have to constantly remove the watch from the wall.
For the more discerning I also make reproductions complete with strap and buckle in 3:1 scale to be placed prominently on a table or bookshelf.
