The Oyster Perpetual has always been synonymous with essentiality at Rolex: the watch that shows the hours, minutes, seconds and nothing else. Since 1931, when it was first launched, it encapsulated the entire vision of the brand's founder Hans Wilsdorf, synthesising everything an Oyster stands for: water resistance, reliability and technology.
Over the past three years, the company has launched new lacquered dials, offering a rich assortment of configurations and colours. Colourful and sparkling versions that have by no means detracted from the typical sobriety of this model but have given it new life by articulating its proposal.
But this year, Rolex wanted to be even more daring and did so by putting together those very five colours introduced in 2020 (candy pink, light turquoise, yellow, coral red and green) in a single dial bursting with multicoloured spheres of various sizes. An effervescent pop-style motif, called 'Celebration', proposed on the Oyster Perpetual 31, 36 and 41.
The substance remains the same. The case, water-resistant to 10 atmospheres of pressure (the minimum water-resistance of all Oyster watches, bar none), is made of Oystersteel with a satin and polished finish. The winding crown is equipped with the Twinlock system with double gasket and rubber O-ring.
The 3-link Oyster bracelet, which is wide and flat to make it very comfortable on the wrist, is conveniently adjustable thanks to the Easylink extension system built into the Oysterclasp folding clasp, which allows an extension of up to 5 millimetres
The Oyster Perpetual 36 and 41 adopt the calibre 3230. Among its main features is the Chronergy escapement, made of a nickel-phosphor alloy and insensitive to magnetic fields, which makes the watch more efficient and reliable over time. Thanks to the new-generation barrel spring and the superior efficiency of its escapement, the watch boasts a power reserve of around 70 hours.
In addition, the Parachrom balance spring, made of niobium and zirconium, which is insensitive to magnetic fields, ensures great stability against temperature changes and, in the event of a shock, remains up to ten times more accurate than a traditional balance spring. The Oyster Perpetual 31, on the other hand, is equipped with the 2232 calibre with a Syloxi balance spring and 55-hour power reserve.
