The new Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour from Roger Dubuis draws inspiration from the particular colours of the sky that can be caught just after the sun goes down.
Roger Dubuis expands the iconic Excalibur collection with a new Monotourbillon that captures the magic of the blue hour, that magical moment at dusk when the sky is tinged with intense hues. The Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour, presented at Watches and Wonders 2024 in Shanghai, represents the Geneva-based company's latest interpretation of the tourbillon.
The beating heart of this creation is the manufacture calibre RD512SQ, a skeleton movement embodying Roger Dubuis' mastery of tourbillon construction. The large flying cage, consisting of 63 components, is made with the lower part made of titanium and the upper part inspired by the Celtic Cross. The tourbillon device, mounted only on one side and without a support bridge on top, offers a full view of the mechanism, defying conventions in terms of stability and design.
Roger Dubuis: a flying tourbillon to capture the magic of sunset
The bezel of the Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour is set with sixty precious stones, recreating the typical hues of twilight.
The aesthetics of Roger Dubuis' Excalibur Monotourbillon Blue Hour are also expressed through the bezel, which is set with 60 baguette-cut precious stones. These include 10 white diamonds and 50 blue sapphires, that create a degradé that evokes the transition from day to night. The 42 mm case in 18-carat rose gold frames the dial totally exposed to the movement.
The latter, a hand-wound mechanical movement that has been awarded the Poinçon de Genève, boasts a 72-hour power reserve and is distinguished by its 16 different hand-crafted finishes on each component. The white calfskin strap, equipped with a quick release system, completes this timepiece produced in alimited edition of only 28.
