It is a tribute to Merlin the Magician the new chapter that Roger Dubuis dedication to the Knights of the Round Table. The new Knights of the Round Table: The Omniscient Merlin is in fact part of the famous collection of the Helvetic House, and draws on Merlin's history thanks to an exceptional dial that evokes the famous Giant's Causeway.
This chivalric legend thus reaches the 'ends of the earth', as far as the Giant's Causewayin Northern Ireland. It is a mystical place that is reinterpreted by Roger Dubuis through craftsmanship and expressiveness that have always characterised the Maison.
According to some Arthurian legends, Merlin the magician used to dwell near these spectacular cliffs. From here he could admire the ancient Selciato del Gigante with its imposing basalt columns.
Roger Dubuis Knight of the Round Table: homage to Merlin
The latest chapter of the collection stopped by Roger Dubuis is dedicated to the famous magician.
In creating this new timepiece, Roger Dubuis then retraced the steps of Merlin the Wizard, drawing inspiration from the Giant's Causeway. By reproducing the organic majesty of these natural formations, the Maison embarks on a real journey into the métiers d'art, drawing on a wide range of materials and applying various artistic techniques.
Each dial is made from an 18-carat rose gold base, on which a series of holes and hexagonal sections have been precisely reproduced, subsequently treated with a layer of black PVD. Many of the underlying rose gold sections were revealed with the use of lasers and emphasised with a matt finish, or by using a sunburst pattern.
At this point, the 56 columns are assembled, all strictly by hand. The craftsmen of the House arrange the hexagonal towers to apply on various heights between 0.2 mm and 3.7 mm. In particular, the following have been included 28 blocks of real basalt, 9 blocks of solid rose gold, 10 blocks of black Murano-style glass and 9 blocks of clear glass.
In this vision, perspective also plays an important role. The 56 blocks are not only assembled to faithfully reproduce the Giant's Causeway, but, in their angular arrangement, create a vanishing point in the centre of the quadrant. This optical illusion helps to accentuate volume and depth while avoiding creating a flat honeycomb effect.

All around the dial are the twelve knights, who are veritable micro-sculptures. Each knight is made with meticulous craftsmanship. Starting from initial drawings, resin models are made, all perfectly proportioned. 3D scans are then made, followed by the creation of moulds and then a 18-carat rose gold forging process to obtain 6 mm high figures.
The 45 mm diameter rose gold case is water-resistant to 3 atmospheres. The strap is made of calfskin, interchangeable thanks to the Quick Release System. The pink gold buckle is triple folding. Finally, the watch is moved by the Manufacture calibre RD821, mechanical automatic, awarded the Poinçon de Genève and with a 48-hour power reserve.
