Roger Dubuis is launching the second timepiece in its Urban Art Tribe series, the Excalibur Gully Monotourbillon, born of a collaboration with Gully, the French graffiti artist who has moved from walls to canvases. Gully has thus taken up the same creative challenge of reinterpreting the iconic star that characterises the Excalibur Monotourbillon. Gully's art lies at the crossroads of several movements, from hyperrealism to pop art, from surrealism to cubism, creating works that traverse art history and reflect the gaze of the youngest. The transalpine artist brings together two universes in a new original timepiece, combining the Maison's watchmaking prowess with his irrepressible artistic talent. Deliberately appropriating the iconic star and intertwining it with his graffiti, the artist offers a new version of the Geneva brand's symbol par excellence. In addition to this, Gully winks at his early street art works and creates a tag using the famous single line technique. Starting from the centre of the timepiece, the artist's hand draws a straight line towards 11 o'clock - the first element of a G. Then the line heads towards 3 o'clock, but halfway along it changes direction to draw part of a Y. Finally, the line reaches 9 o'clock, 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 3 o'clock before moving towards the centre of the tourbillon and in the direction of 4 o'clock. Bringing the line back towards the centre, two L's clearly appear. The new Excalibur Gully Monotourbillon will be produced in a limited edition of only eight pieces and has a 42-mm dark grey titanium case. Inside, it beats the skeleton calibre RD512SQ (194 components, 19 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, 72-hour power reserve), a hand-wound mechanical movement with tourbillon device.
