Since 2005, when Roger Dubuis presented its first double tourbillon, this complication has become a distinctive symbol of the Geneva House. The calibre RD108SQ powering this timepiece is a true work of mechanical art, with two flying tourbillon devices connected by a regulating differential.

This hand-wound movement offers a 72-hour power reserve and has 319 components decorated with 17 different hand finishes. Its operating frequency is 21,600 vibrations per hour. It is also certified by the prestigious Poinçon de Genève. The complexity of this mechanism is such that it requires four times as much time to assemble and adjust as a watch with a single balance. The skeletonisation of the dial allows the movement to be admired in all its beauty, revealing the craftsmanship that characterises each Roger Dubuis creation.

For the 45 mm case, Roger Dubuis opted for cobalt chrome, material originally developed for the automotive, aviation and aerospace industries. Cobalt chrome is more scratch-resistant than gold, highly corrosion-resistant, antimagnetic and robust, and therefore ideal for everyday use. Roger Dubuis incorporated cobalt chrome into its production in 2017, making it one of the Maison's distinctive materials. The House also uses this alloy for the upper bridge of tourbillon cages, not only because of its lustre, but also for its anti-magnetic properties.

Roger Dubuis has been using cobalt chrome for its watches since 2017.

In nature, cobalt is blue. This material, considered valuable since ancient times, has been used in various fields, including jewellery, painting and glass. In homage to its natural colour, Roger Dubuis has dressed the skeleton structure of theExcalibur Double Tourbillon Cobalt Chromeincluding the star visible on the dial side, the symbol of the Maison.

The case is silver grey in colour, a shade that cobalt chrome takes on after undergoing powder metallurgy, procedure used for metal formation involving the heating of compacted metal powders to a temperature just below their melting point.

The result is a perfectly homogenous material, free of impurities and significantly brighter than stainless steel and titanium. Despite its many advantages, cobalt chrome is still rarely used in the watch industry. The blue calfskin strap is equipped with the Quick Release System. Finally, the new Excalibur Double Tourbillon Cobalt Chrome by Roger Dubbuis is produced in a limited edition of only 28 pieces.
