In 2005, Roger Dubuis introduced its inimitable skeletonisation to the world of Haute Horlogerie, which has continued to be offered in innovative materials and highly original designs ever since. For the new Excalibur Double Tourbillon Volante Skeleton, the House's objective was to optimise each of its components in order to offer enthusiasts a perfect blend of design, performance and comfort. The Helvetic House has therefore reinvented its iconic double tourbillon, turning it into an avant-garde object in terms of technicality and design. In particular, with the new Excalibur Double Tourbillon Flying Skeleton Roger Dubuis sets out to radically change the approach to skeletonisation, a concept that is here taken to the limit to create a dynamic aesthetic. Essential lines and polished angles create an impression of lightness that affects both the appearance and weight of the watch. The movement, entirely reconstructed in terms of volume, accentuates the sense of transparency and depth. The latter quality is boldly enhanced by the iconic Roger Dubuis star, which is here freed from its functional role within the base of the movement: placed between the flange and the plate, intersecting bridges arranged on several levels, the star is now suspended above the barrel for a result of extraordinary visual impact. Specifically, the calibre used is the RD108SQ (319 components, 32 jewels, 21,600 vib/h, 72-hour power reserve, awarded the Geneva Hallmark), a hand-wound mechanical movement. It should be emphasised that every single detail of the movement was meticulously designed and manufactured to ensure that the unparalleled technical prowess was matched by an equally extraordinary aesthetic. In addition, Roger Dubuis has radically increased the power reserve to an impressive 72 hours. To achieve this, the Manufacture's watchmakers have successfully reduced the weight of the tourbillons through the selective use of non-magnetic materials. Thus, each tourbillon features a lower part of the cage made of titanium (twice as light as stainless steel) and an upper part made of mirror-polished cobalt-chrome. The Excalibur Double Tourbillon Skeletonised is available in three variants, of eight pieces each, with a 45 mm white or pink gold case that is water-resistant to 10 atmospheres, as well as in a precious version that combines the two colours of gold with baguette-cut diamonds.
