Following the release of its first iconic comic book-inspired watch featuring Blake & Mortimer, Reservoir has brought out a new limited edition model starring none other than Popeye. For its creation, the House collaborated with Label Noir, a brand from La Chaux-de-Fonds specialising in personalising watches.
The silhouette of the seemingly gruff sailor with a pipe always in his mouth, capable of becoming strong and protecting the weak by swallowing the portentous spinach, is hand-painted in the centre of the dark grey dial.
The watch offers a retrograde minute display on the flange, indicated by Popeye's arm acting as a hand, and a jumping hour display at 6 o'clock.
In dove grey is the nubuck leather strap, with red and grey stitching, while the 41.5 mm case is made of grey DCL titanium and is guaranteed water-resistant to 5 atmospheres.
Popeye also appears on the sapphire crystal case back that partially shows off the movement used: the automatic RSV-240 calibre, with a patented module produced by Reservoir (based on the La Joux-Perret G100), for a power reserve of 56 hours.
Each numbered model (a limited edition of 200 pieces) is delivered in a white wooden box, decorated with an image of 'The Popeye Family'. On sale at a price of €4,700, the watch is currently available on the Reservoir website and from authorised dealers.
