Road test for Chanel

Aimed exclusively at a male audience, the Monsieur Superleggera version retains its status as a high-end watch, with the first movement made in-house and two special complications travelling in tandem: jumping hours and retrograde minutes. Giving it new style is the dial's inspiration from racing tachometers, with the Superleggera signature - a legendary name in Italian motor racing - positioned in red on a black background and the typeface evoking the culture of grand touring cars. The layout of the indications remains unchanged, with the jumping hour window at 6 o'clock forged in the emblematic shape of an octagon, the same as the plan of Place Vendôme in Paris. The retrograde minutes are indicated on a 240-degree arc and can be set with the crown in either direction: the hand returns instantaneously to zero after reaching the 60th minute, then resumes its march. A new element introduced with the Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Edition is also the choice of materials such as matt black ceramic instead of gold for the case, underlining the ultra-lightweight concept inherent in its name: the weight stands at just 74 grams, perfectly balancing the wearability of a watch of significant dimensions that is both elegant and technical at the same time. The same goes for the strap, which uses a technical canvas lined in red leather instead of alligator leather.
As already mentioned, no changes have been made to the movement, the hand-wound Calibre 1 with its complications integrated in the plate. It boasts a power reserve of 72 hours, well above average, to ensure the energy necessary for the regular jumping hour every 60 minutes. Revealed through the sapphire crystal caseback, it is characterised by its minimalist and contemporary architecture: from the circular structure of the bridges, to the interplay of thicknesses and three-dimensional effects achieved by skeletonising, to the black finish of the parts.
Price: 36,000 euro.
