Piaget presents a new Polo, equipped with a flying tourbillon device and astronomical moon phase display.
Launched in 1979, the Piaget is to date one of the most popular sporty-chic watches in the world of haute horlogerie. The House, after presenting a variant with a skeleton movement in 2021 and one with an ultra-thin perpetual calendar in 2023, now equips the collection with a movement with a tourbillon device and astronomical moon phase display.
The flying tourbillon, already starring in the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon, is now also used in the Polo collection. It is the first Polo to be equipped with a flying tourbillon device, and the House has decided to go for blue tones, one of the House's signatures, chromatically speaking.
Piaget's new Polo Flying Tourbillon Moonphase employs a 44 mm titanium coussin case, for a thickness of 9.8 mm. The finish alternates between polished and satin surfaces, while the Blue PVD treatment of the elements on the sides of the case middle and the crown insert recall the characteristic gadroon motif of the dial, 'visual signature' of the collection.
The Piaget 642P calibre
The new Polo Flying Tourbillon Moonphase is driven by an ultra-flat calibre just 4 mm thick.
Inside the case beats the hand-wound IWC-manufactured calibre 642P (21,600 vibrations per hour, 40-hour power reserve), an ultra-thin movement. This evolution of the famous 600P calibre integrates not only the flying tourbillon with its characteristic P-shaped cage (at 12 o'clock), but also an accurate moon phase display that requires correction only every 122 years.
The moon phase display, positioned at 6 o'clock, offers astronomical precision and can be adjusted via the corrector at 9 o'clock. The movement is partially visible from the dial side, while a circular window also allows the tourbillon device to be observed from the back side.
Still on the subject of the dial, it is worth noting the blue-emitting luminescent treatment of Alpha hands and trapezoidal hour markers. The tourbillon device at 12 o'clock also indicates continuous seconds.
Waterproof to a pressure of 10 atmospheres (an unusual fact for a watch with a tourbillon), The new Polo Flying Tourbillon Moonphase comes with two blue straps (with quick-change system), one in rubber and the other in crocodile. The lock is double folding, operated by two safety buttons.
