The Alarm Travel Time is Patek Philippe's military charm watch with a dual time-zone function and 24-hour alarm that chimes on a classic timepiece.
In 1959 Patek Philippe patented the Travel Time mechanism: a device for two time zone watches that allowed the hour hand to be moved without also moving the minute hand. Independent remittance could be carried out by means of two buttons on the left side of the carrure. The system was further refined in 1996 (by obtaining a second patent): fn advancing the local time hand in one-hour increments, an isolating system disconnects the second time zone mechanism from the base movement, allowing the amplitude of the balance oscillation and the running accuracy of the watch not to be influenced in any way.
The new generation of Pateks with Travel Time function represented the formal and stylistic evolution of that original idea, preserving all its positive values in terms of functionality and ease of use and placing it in contexts that are current and technologically at the highest level.
A speciality of the House that has also become the focus of Patek's Pilot line inspired by the world of flight, which has reinterpreted the aesthetic lines of the Calatrava case in an unusual key, and which in almost ten years has given shape to different models in terms of functionality. 2019 saw the launch of the Alarm Travel Time 5520, included among Patek Philippe's Grand Complications: in the wake of the Pilot style, it is a watch with a dual time-zone function, to which the Maison has coupled a 24-hour alarm clock.e.
Alarm Travel Time: a movement with four patents for the alarm clock
The first Patek Philippe with a waterproof chime.
For the Alarm Travel Time 5520, Patek Philippe specially developed an integrated automatic movement, rather than insert an alarm module on an existing gauge, to achieve minimum thickness (6.6 mm) and diameter (31 mm). Four patents have been filed concerning the alarm clock over 24 hours: equipped with a hammer striking a classic timbre, it offers a digital display of the time set for the chime, in 15-minute jumps.
Housed in a 42.2 mm Pilot-style case, the Alarm Travel Time defined the first Patek Philippe alarm watch to be fitted with a water-resistant case (30 metres). In order to guarantee optimal sound quality (considering that water resistance could be a hindrance to its diffusion), the gong is fixed directly on the case middle, and not on the movement, as is usually the case.
