In 2014, the flyback chronograph was the first complication to be added to the modern Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe collection. The watch is driven by the Blancpain manufacture calibre F385 (diameter 31.8 mm, thickness 6.65 mm, 322 components, 37 jewels, 50-hour power reserve), which beats at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour and is visible through the sapphire crystal porthole located on the caseback. This movement is equipped with a vertical clutch and column wheel, which ensure a "smoother" start of the chronograph seconds hand, which thus jumps without the sudden jumps typical of movements that are not equipped with these two technical devices. It is also equipped with a silicon balance spring.
The 43 mm case is now available in two new versions: 18-carat red gold or grade 23 titanium. This type of titanium (also known as 5 ELI - extra low interstitialis, or very rare inclusions) is the purest in existence. It contains less oxygen than the 'standard' titanium normally used in watchmaking, improving its resistance to both fracture and corrosion, as well as being anti-allergenic.
The dials, contrasting blue for the red gold case model and anthracite for the grade 23 titanium model for a monochrome watch/tool style, have a sunburst finish and are surrounded by a unidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic insert with a sexagesimal scale. The blue insert of the red gold model has Ceragold indices, that of the titanium model has Liquidmetal indices.
The new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback comes with a Nato or canvas strap, blue for the gold model and grey for the titanium one. The latter is also available with a titanium bracelet. Water resistance is guaranteed up to 30 atmospheres.
