Exactly sixty years after the first DiaStar, the scratch-resistant watch par excellence, Rado offers a captivating reinterpretation of it in collaboration with designer Alfredo Häberli.
Retaining the strong personality of its predecessor, while at the same time introducing noteworthy innovations, the new model features a monochrome steel case with a top section in Ceramos (a material composed of hi-tech ceramic at 90% and a metal alloy at 10%) brushed in a sunburst pattern, a sapphire crystal with hexagonal facets to celebrate the six decades since the original model was presented, and a metallised grey dial, on which the date and day indications are displayed at 6 o'clock.
Ceramos is injected at high pressure into a precision mould before undergoing the sintering process until it reaches its final hardness.
The watch is also available in a standard version, with a facetted sapphire crystal with parallel lines, a steel bracelet with H-shaped links and monochrome dials in blue, grey and green. Animating it is the Rado R764 automatic calibre (based on ETA 2824, 25 jewels), with an 80-hour power reserve and Nivachron antimagnetic balance spring.
The 38 x 46 mm steel case is 'wrapped' in a Ceramos bezel. The new DiaStar Original 60-Year Anniversary Edition is combined with a Milanese mesh steel bracelet. An additional grey textile strap is included in the package. Water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 10 atmospheres.
