Inspired by an iconic 1950s model, the Fiftysix collection celebrates the skilful marriage of styles and eras. The Fiftysix, in fact, echoes the salient features of the reference 6073, introduced by Vacheron Constantin in 1956, and the first automatic water-resistant watch created by the Geneva-based company. In particular, these characteristics can be traced in the design of the lugs, which form a section of the Maltese cross, the Manufacture's emblem, and in the box-type crystal, which covers the bezel like post-war watches, as well as the retro look, which marries the timeless elegance of the 40-millimetre diameter pink gold case. The new sepia-brown shade of the dial, unveiled during the unprecedented virtual edition of Wacthes & Wonders 2020, accentuates the vintage nature of the timepiece, which is available in two versions, automatic time-only with date and full calendar. In the full calendar version, the dial is marked by the day, date and month indications, as well as the precision moon phase, which requires no adjustment for 122 years. The watch is powered by the self-winding 2460 QCL/1 movement. The sapphire crystal case back reveals the traditional côtes de Genève finish, on which the delicately skeletonised 22-carat rose gold oscillating weight, in a shape inspired by the Maltese cross, stands out. With the new sepia-brown colour of the dial, the personality of the Fiftysix solotempo self-winding watch is also accentuated by a resolutely retro note. The sectorial dial is distinguished by its refined opaline, sunburst and blued finishes. Again, on the back, the self-winding movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback (it is the IWC-manufactured calibre 1326). Finally, these two new variants in Vacheron Constantin's Fiftysix collection adopt a brown calfskin strap.
