Sylvie Ritter is stepping down as Managing Director of Baselworld after 26 years at the helm of the Mch Group, which organises the show. Replacing her on 1 July will be Michel Loris-Melikoff, currently Director of Mch Beaulieu Lausanne. Loris-Melikoff began his career in private banking before entering the events industry 20 years ago. After six years as president of Zurich Street Parade, he headed an events agency, later becoming managing director of St. Jakobshalle in Basel, before joining the Mch Group.
Many novelties have already been announced for the next edition of the show. "We will expand the Baselworld team and further develop the event to continue on the path of quality improvement and to meet the challenges of the future," said Michel Loris-Melikoff. "We want to position Baselworld as the leading marketing and communication platform for the industry. We are approaching this task with many new ideas and valuable input from exhibitors, visitors and the media." Loris-Melikoff has already announced a special initiative for the jewellery segment, but new concepts have also been developed for the watch and gemstone segment, which will be announced shortly. Further innovations will be introduced in the areas of catering, hospitality and events in order to further meet the needs of exhibitors and visitors. Baselworld 2019 will be open a full day for media representatives. The trade fair newspaper 'Baselworld Daily News' will return in printed form and with a new concept. In parallel, the digital information and communication offers launched in 2018 will be intensified and supplemented by new services.
