Mido turns the TV back on

The Multifort TV Big Date S01.E01 is the new version, in a limited series and with a single dial, of the Mido model that revived the shape of the 'big televisions'.

Mido Multifort TV Big Date S01.E01Those who have passed the 'old age' will certainly remember the so-called monoscope, that fixed television image produced for the purpose of checking the quality of broadcasts and TV sets. It appeared on the screen at times of the day when there were no programmes on air, in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. And it is precisely the image of a colour monoscope (so since the 1970s, before that it was in black and white), which appears on the dial of the Mido Multifort TV Big Date S01.E01.

It is a new limited series version (999 pieces) of the model that last year reintroduced the typical television case from that period in the Multifort collection. In the past, there have been several versions of the "big date" for Mido: from the Multi Star of 1973, via the Commander of 1980 and the appearance of the TV case on the Multifort line in 2000, all references with the presence of the day and date. The Multifort TV Big Date, on the other hand, abandoned the display of the day of the week on the dial to introduce the big date.

Mido focuses on the dial of the Multifort TV Big Date

A 'television' dial: the different coloured squares depicting the monoscope are three-dimensional pyramids in relief.

A TV not only in form but also in image: because, as mentioned, the multicoloured monoscope with facetted pyramids in relief in this variant replaces the monochrome brushed dial of the first version. The different sizes of the pyramids create a visual impression of movement like a real screen.Mido Multifort TV Big Date S01.E01The alternating trapezoidal quarter-hour markers, highlighted in black with white SuperLuminova, create a nice contrast to the 'TV' dial. At 12 o'clock is the large date, a complication that we rarely find on watches in this price range. The rectangular/square steel case with rounded corners is almost a four-thirds (like the TVs of yesteryear), measuring 40 mm x 39.2 mm. Characterised by a pleasant range of polished and brushed surfaces. Water resistance to 100 metres is guaranteed by the screw-down case back and crown.

Three options, between bracelet and strap, for the Multifort TV Big Date

The 80-gauge is sspecially developed by ETA according to the requirements of Mido.

Ihe movement is from the Swatch Group, which owns the brand: the Mido 80 automatic calibre with a power reserve of up to 80 hoursThis was achieved by a lower movement frequency (21,600 vibrations per hour instead of 28,800) and a longer barrel spring.

Mido Multifort TV Big Date S01.E01The spiral is in Nivachron, a material officially unveiled in 2018 and the result of joint work between the Swatch Group and Audemars Piguet to create a special titanium-based alloy, which on the one hand solves the problem of magnetisation on movements, and on the other becomes an alternative to silicon. The steel bracelet of the Multifort TV Big Date can be exchanged for the two additional straps included in the personalised package: in yellow and turquoise blue rubber with relief motifs.
