A clear motoring inspiration is the new US 66 Power Reserve model signed Hamilton, a brand new model to be launched at the 2008 Basel Motor Show. Created in honour of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Route 66, the famous American road that connected hundreds of mainly rural towns in Illinois, Missouri and Kansas to Santa Monica on the West Coast, the model is produced in a special numbered edition of 2008. Every element is an obvious homage to the world of automobiles, starting with the central part of the dial, similar in features to the radiator grille of a sports car, which allows one to observe its 'engine', i.e. the automatic 2897 movement, Swiss made (ETA). Resembling a tachymeter, however, are the numerals between 35 and 55 and tapered linear indices on the left and right-hand sides of the dial respectively. The latter, between 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock, are red like the overspeed indicator on the most powerful cars and motorbikes. The 42-hour power reserve indicator, similar to a tank, and the small seconds counter echo the shape of the fuel indicators.
