Longines - Silver Arrow

Longines revisits a House classic from the 1950s, now part of the Heritage collection: the Silver Arrow. This new model has a 38.5 mm-diameter steel case housing an automatic mechanical movement equipped with a silicon balance-spring (calibre L888.5, based on the ETA A31.L11, 11 ½'' diameter, 21 jewels, 25,200 vibrations per hour, 72-hour power reserve) and is covered by a five-year warranty.

The story of the original Silver Arrow began in 1955, when Longines organised a competition to find a name for this new model, which was characterised by an avant-garde design for the time. Among the 450 entries received, one name stood out, "Silver Arrow", a reference to the famous racing cars that dominated the motor racing circuits at the time. Thus was born the first Silver Arrow, which left the Longines workshops in 1956.

In those days, each of the brand's collections featured an emblem such as the Silver Arrow, a supersonic aircraft that sped through the skies. By moving from the motor racing circuits to the air routes, Longines reaffirms its strong link with the aeronautical world and its pioneers. Today, therefore, the brand is bringing this historic model back to life, distinguished above all by its sober design and elegant lines. The convex opaline silvered dial, decidedly minimalist, features the same striated hour markers as the original model and gladius hands, all coated with Super-LumiNova. The absence of the date and the 'Automatic' inscription contributes to the watch's sobriety, which retains the spirit of the original model. The new model also features a box-type sapphire crystal with a multilayer anti-reflective coating on the inside and a screw-down case back engraved with the "Silver Arrow" emblem. A matt brown leather strap with a vintage finish completes the watch.

Price: 1,950 euro.
