The Legend Diver is to all intents and purposes a best-seller of Longines and faithfully reproduces the design of a historic model from the 1960s, a period when the brand affirmed its vocation for marine exploration. It was a model with a Super-Compressor case, which, while retaining a design typical of that period, was characterised by technical features that are still relevant today, such as a shaped sapphire crystal, a screw-down crown and back to guarantee water-resistance, and an inner rotating bezel.
With its vintage appeal, the new-generation Legend Diver now asserts itself as a diver with a classic style that makes it quite elegant, even for everyday wear. But still a diver in its own right, ISO 6425-certified and water-resistant to 30 atmospheres.
Hitherto available in 42 or 36 mm versions, it is now offered in a completely redesigned 39 mm case. Made of steel, the case features alternating polished and satin finishes. The screw-down caseback is engraved with the image of a diver.
The dial, which now has no date display as on the '59 model, is available in black or blue lacquered versions with luminescent bar and quarter Arabic numeral hour markers and is protected by a domed box-type sapphire crystal with black metal plating and multi-layered anti-reflective treatment above and below. The bidirectional flange, which can be operated via the screw-down crown at 2 o'clock, displays the scale indicating the remaining dive time.
The automatic movement that equips the Legend Diver, the L888.6 calibre, is equipped with a silicon balance spring and innovative components that make it ten times more resistant to magnetic fields than the ISO 764 reference standard. With a power reserve of up to 72 hours, it is Cosc chronometer-certified.
It is available with a brown leather strap, with a blue Nato strap or with a newly developed steel bracelet closed by a folding clasp with a double safety system.
