Giving Seiko's Prospex an unprecedented style is the new octagonal bezel design, a first for the Japanese brand.
Starting in 1965, with the launch of what can be considered his first professional diver, Seiko has never stopped investing in the search for the best solutions for instruments intended for professional and non-professional diving use, which was booming at the time. The legendary 62MAS (ref. 6217-8000) could withstand 15 atmospheres and due to its reliability, it was immediately chosen by a team of Japanese scientists working in the Antarctic
In almost sixty years in professional diving, Seiko sports watches have evolved not only in terms of innovation, technology and performance but also in terms of design. The latest stylistic innovation represents an absolute novelty for the collection: the new Prospex SPB481J1, SPB483J1 and SPB485J1 abandon the traditional round rotating bezel for an unprecedented octagonal one, perfectly matched to the new 41.3 mm case design.
A newly designed bezel is the new style element of Seiko's diver
Prospex SPB481J1, SPB483J1 and SPB485J1: octagonal bezel and water resistance to 300 metres.
Despite the geometric style, the bezel of the new Prospex retains soft rounded corners: free of angularity, ensures easy grip and ease of use. The three versions differ in the colour combination of the bezel and dial: black bezel to match the champagne dial, blue for both elements, and rose gold to contrast with the dial background.
The latter, in all three variants, is decorated with a wavy fluted motif, a clear reference to a marine theme. Hands and hour markers are luminescent thanks to the use of Lumibrite, and between 4 and 5 o'clock there is a date window. For all, the polished and satin-finished steel case is treated with an extra hard scratch-resistant coating, the screw-down crown is fitted with protective straps, and water resistance is guaranteed up to 300 metres.
Bracelet with wetsuit extension system for a Prospex diver with all the features
Antimagnetic and precise: a Seiko automatic calibre with excellent performance.
The metal bracelet, with the same alternating finishes as the case (polished central links and brushed outer links), has a triple folding clasp with safety button to prevent accidental release and an extension system for wearing it comfortably over the wetsuit.
Concealed by the screw-down back of these new Seiko Prospex is the automatic calibre 6R55which beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and guarantees a 72-hour power reserve. It boasts an accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds per day and is resistant to magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m (60 gauss).
