Altiplano in the house of Piaget is synonymous with the ultra-thin watch, a type for which the Maison has developed a highly respectable specialisation. A watch with which the House has always displayed great technical savoir-faire (an ultra-thin watch, even in a time-only version, is in itself a complex model in terms of design and construction. given its reduced thickness). But also artistic, since Piaget has for decades collaborated with artists and maître d'art, who make some watches into true works of goldsmithing and art.
This year, a small complication such as the moon phases made its debut in the collection and did so with four examples (each representing a cardinal point and associated with one of the four seasons) showcasing the finest decorative arts applied to watchmaking.
Four watches in 36 mm cases (in white or pink gold and diamonds) whose dials are the result of two years of development. Under a translucent enamel night sky created by master enameller Anita Porchet. illuminated by the stars, moon rays composed of diamonds, sapphires and garnets of increasing size are set in the lower half of the gold dial with Décor Palace.
At 6 o'clock is the disc of the phases of the star, framed by a gold ring set with diamonds in the shape of a crescent moon.
In order to respect the aesthetics of the Altiplano's very small thickness, the designs adorning the dial have been made on an infinitely small scale. Enamelling and gold engraving require the highest level of expertise to adapt to the Altiplano's delicate mechanism.
The movement is the automatic 580P calibre (4.51 mm) with a blue enamel oscillating weight.
