In the heart of the Swiss city, Omega has been producing its watches since 1882. Its is a modern and environmentally friendly structure, made entirely of Swiss spruce and concrete, with an ingenious energy management system. A factory inaugurated in 2017 that bears the signature of the famous Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, known and appreciated worldwide for his innovative approach and use of unusual building materials and his ability to combine Japanese and Western architectural themes.
Organised on five floors, the building brings together all of Omega's assembly and testing processes under one roof, making production more efficient and dynamic. All stages of production, including watch assembly and packaging, as well as warehousing and logistics, take place in-house. It is also designed for training.
A manufacture where human expertise is central and indispensable and where technology seems to come from the future. An example of this is the automatic, fireproof warehouse, which rises three storeys into the centre of the building, making the more than 30,000 cases containing all the parts for watch production accessible. It is an environment of innovation and safety, where oxygen has been reduced to 15.2% so that no fires can develop and spread. Only two specially trained people are allowed to enter.
Employee well-being is also central, as revealed by the ergonomics and careful management of temperature and air conditioning. As well as sustainability, which demonstrates the brand's commitment to the environment. It is a choice visible in every detail: from the level of insulation of the structure, which exceeds the requirements of the Swiss building regulations, to the artificial lighting with LEDs and the energy supply, entirely based on a geothermal system. The latter utilises the energy recovery potential of groundwater obtained from various wells on the site.
