After more than 50 years, the King Seiko Vanac returns and will be available from July in five new versions.
Seiko presents the new King Seiko Vanac, more than half a century after the launch of the first collection bearing this name. This iconic timepiece born in the 1970s, known for its bold and innovative design, is now reborn with an automatic mechanical movement and an aesthetic that combines tradition and modernity.
The new King Seiko Vanacs maintain the pioneering spirit of the original 1972 model, characterised by bright colours and faceted lines, which represented a revolution in design at the time. In particular, the new Vanac collection draws inspiration from the Tokyo skyline, the metropolis that gave birth to the brand. The design of the case and dial reflects the changing hues of the urban skyline at different times of day, creating a visual link with Japanese culture.
The steel case, without a bezel, has a diameter of 41 mm 14.3 mm thick and is guaranteed waterproof up to a pressure of 10 atmospheres. The newly developed bracelet combines links with a mirror and satin finish, and is equipped with a folding clasp with safety button.
The 8L45 calibre: precision and reliability
The new King Seiko Vanacs are powered by the Seiko calibre 8L45, mechanical automatic.
The new King Seiko Vanacs are powered by the 8L45 calibre, the latest evolution of Seiko's 8L series of movements. This movement has an operating frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and guarantees a power reserve of 72 hours (3 days). Accuracy is guaranteed in the range of +10 to -5 seconds per day.
In addition, for the first time in a King Seiko since the relaunch of the collection in 2022, the back is made of sapphire crystal, allowing the beautiful finish of the movement to be admired. The King Seiko Vanac is also fitted with a box-type sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment to protect the dial and has a resistance to magnetic fields of up to 4,800 A/m. On the dial itself, hands and hour markers are treated with Lumibrite and the date window is located at 3 o'clock.
King Seiko's new Vanac series will be available from July 2025 at Seiko boutiques and selected authorised dealers worldwide. The collection includes three 'standard' models with dials available in shades of purple, navy blue and silver, inspired by Tokyo's twilight, midnight and dawn respectively.
These are joined by an exclusive limited edition of 700 with a gold-coloured dial, as well as a model produced exclusively for Seiko boutiques, with an ice-blue dial recalling the clear sky of the Japanese metropolis. The return of the King Seiko Vanac represents not only a tribute to the brand's past, but also a step forward in Japanese watchmaking innovation, true to Kintaro Hattori's philosophy of being 'always one step ahead'.
