Jaeger-LeCoultre: an ongoing rediscovery

On 17 and 18 May 2016, the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture opened its doors to eight L'Orologio Club members who were guided around its workshops, which occupy most of the 21,000 square metres of the Le Sentier factory. The visits included the Great Complications workshop, the Rare Crafts workshop and the Heritage Gallery, which is the company's exhibition space dedicated to historical pieces, as well as the Atmos clock assembly workshop. The day ended with the presentation of the Reverso collections. Finally, after having had a close look at the company's artists grappling with the most difficult and rare crafts in watchmaking, the eight Club members set to work. With a white enamelled copper plate and a palette of colours in front of them, under the guidance of Jaeger-LeCoultre's master enamellers, they were able to let their imaginations run wild: with a steady hand and a superfine brush, they drew geometric or floral motifs on a surface roughly the size of the dial of a Reverso. Some stamped their own initials or those of their children. They all received advice and instructions from the manufacture's expert enamellers until they obtained a valuable and welcome souvenir of their visit to Jaeger-LeCoultre.
