A concentrate of technique and style: the Master Hybris Mechanica Calibre 362 combines a minute repeater and a flying tourbillon in an ultra-thin automatic movement. Now offered in a new, very limited version with a midnight blue dial.
Refined, elegant, apparently simple but instead extremely complex, ultra-flat watchmaking represents the affirmation of a balanced and concrete style that has become very popular in recent years. Everything becomes even more complex, however, when the subtlety of the movement is compounded by complications. Jaeger-LeCoultre In 2014, he combined these specialities in a model from the Hybris Mechanica series: a self-winding flying tourbillon with minute repeater, concentrated in 7.9 mm. At the time, a record for an ultra-flat model in its category.
The automatic Calibre 362 is based on eight patents, some of which were developed specifically for this model, such as the unprecedented flying tourbillon equipped with a flying balance. As a result, the company has patented a new type of S-shaped balance spring fixed above the balance wheel which, unlike all other flying tourbillons, is completely visible. Balance and spiral can thus be observed in motion, creating a setting that is as unusual as it is striking.
To keep the thickness to a minimum without compromising on efficiency, the calibre 362 was designed with a peripheral winding rotor in platinum positioned on the side of the dial. Its oscillation is therefore shown through the twelve apertures that act as a resonance chamber for the minute repeateralso becoming an aesthetic element in its own right.
The savoir-faire of Jaeger-LeCoultre in the development of minute repeaters
A patented retractable minute repeater button system.
Jaeger-LeCoultre developed a 'retractable' single-pusher mechanism, also the subject of a patent. It consists of a locking system located at 8 o'clock that, when activated, allows the minute repeater button to appear; as soon as it is activated, it returns to its initial position. This leaves the case as linear and elegant as possible and also allows water resistance to 3 atmospheres, an extremely rare feature in minute repeater watches.
Benefiting from Jaeger's previous developments in this type of complication, the crystal gongs are welded directly to the sapphire crystal on the dial to which it transmits vibrations. In this way, the properties of the sapphire crystal and the trébuchet hammers, which function like a catapult to provide greater force to the gongs, allow the intensity and purity of the acoustic vibrations emitted to be rapidly amplified and maximised.
Reduction of silence space for minute repeats
Master Hybris Mechanica Calibre 362: the contrast between the midnight blue dial and the polished white gold case.
The repeater plays the hours, quarters and minutes on demand. In order to avoid the long pause between hour and minute chimes that occurs when there are no quarters to strike, the House has also patented a novel system, integrated into the chiming mechanism, of reducing the space of silence during the pause by rapidly chiming the minutes after the hour chimes.
Ten years after its launch, Jaeger-LeCoultre re-proposes the Master Hybris Mechanica Calibre 362 in a very limited version (only 5 pieces) with a white gold case and a midnight blue dial with a soleil finish.
