IWC has been the official technical partner of Mercedes-AMG Petronas since 2013. Last year, the company developed the first official watch for the Formula One team, made for the entire F1 team and not just for the drivers. The Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team fuses the classic Pilot's Watch elements with the distinctive Petronas colour: green.
This year, to celebrate ten years of partnership, IWC is launching a new version at the second Miami Grand Prix. What sets it apart is the unprecedented deep pink rubber strap. Not just any pink, but one that recalls the bright colours of the buildings on Ocean Drive, one of Miami's most famous areas, and the same one that accompanies the team during the race.
In fact, obvious pink details will be present on the gloves and shoes of drivers Lewis Hamilton, seven-time world champion, and George Russell, winner of the Brazilian Grand Prix. Again, the watch will be on the wrists of all team members present at the Grand Prix.
The 41 millimetre case is made of grade 5 titanium, a light and rigid alloy also widely used in automotive engineering to produce parts of cars subjected to enormous stress, such as engine valves. The black dial remains unchanged, with luminescent hour markers and hands in the Petronas team's signature shade of green. The movement is the automatic calibre 69385, a column-wheel chronograph with a 46-hour power reserve.
The first 2022 version remains on sale with the green rubber strap and the additional black embossed calfskin strap. This is joined by a new variant with a pink rubber strap, which comes with the green one and can be purchased exclusively online and in the Miami boutique for a limited period.
Thanks to the integrated EasX-Change interchangeability system, the straps are replaced quickly and easily at the push of a button and without the need for additional tools.
