On 11 June a hundred years ago, the great French oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau (deceased 1997) was born, the man who more than anyone else promoted and influenced the exploration of the seas. On the occasion of his centenary IWCa partner of the Cousteau Society since 2003, dedicates to "Le Commandant" a fifth special edition of its diver par excellence: the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
But that's not all... The House also pays tribute to the centenary of Cousteau's birth by sponsoring a National Geographic exploration voyage that, in the footsteps of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, sets sail aboard Alcyone, his second oceanographic research vessel. The aim of the expedition is to compare Cousteau's past assessments of conditions in the underwater world with new data. Departing from Marseille, the crew will head for the Corsican marine nature reserve of Scandola, on the northern side of the Gulf of Porto. Afterwards, the researchers will stop at the Medes Islands on the Costa Brava. The entire area around the islands has been a strictly protected national marine park since 1990. The researchers' last exploration objective will be the Cabrera archipelago, which, due to its
enormous landscape and ecological value, it was declared a national maritime and land park.
The National Geographic Expedition will start in the summer of 2010.
