The Watchmaking House IWC has recently signed an important partnership with Volvo Ocean Race as sponsor and official timekeeper of the next edition of one of the world's most sensational ocean races. The competition will start from the port of Alicante, Spain, in October 2011 and finish in Galway, Ireland, in July 2012. During these nine months of competition, teams will cover 39,270 nautical miles on the most dangerous seas on the planet. "I am very pleased to welcome IWC Schaffhausen as the official timekeeper of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12. IWC Schaffhausen will also be the sponsor of the prestigious 24-hour record challenge," said Knut Frostad, CEO Volvo Ocean Race. IWC will award the 24-hour record prize for each leg of the race, which will be presented at a special ceremony in each official port of call. The watchmaker will also award a special prize to the fastest team over a 24-hour period during the entire Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12. The corresponding ceremony will take place at the end of the races, in Galway, in July 2012.
