Looking forward to the America's Cup 2024, to be held next year in Barcelona, Omega has launched a new Seamaster inspired by the logo of the defending champion team: Emirates New Zealand, ready to set sail to defend the title of the world's oldest sporting trophy. Omega has supported the Auckland crew since 1995 and the next edition of the famous regatta will be the fourth in which the brand is Official Timekeeper.
"Just as the year has gone by quickly for our friends at Emirates Team New Zealand, this is the right time to show our true colours. Our race-ready watch looks eye-catching and is a fitting tribute to the talented crew and the country they represent," said Omega President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann, at the launch event of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black Emirates Team New Zealand Edition held in September at the Vilanova Preliminary Race.
The Seamaster Planet Ocean here plays on the black and turquoise colour codes of the Emirates Team New Zealand logo. The 45.5-mm case is made of black ceramic, as is the unidirectional bezel with its white enamel graduated scale and triangular dot at 12 o'clock with white SuperLuminova emitting green.
Also in black ceramic is the dial, which features a turquoise pre-race countdown indicator at 3 o'clock, a hue also echoed on the dial's 12 o'clock index, minute track and central seconds hand with the America's Cup trophy symbol as a counterweight.
But also on the black ceramic chronograph push-button rings, the 'He' inscription on the helium escape valve (at 10 o'clock) and the Omega logo on the crown. Water resistance is 600 metres.
Paying homage to the Kiwi crew, the screw-down case back with the "Naiad Lock" device (which keeps all the engravings correctly aligned) features the Emirates Team New Zealand logo with a turquoise fern and white lettering. The movement is the Master Chronometer 9900 calibre, with silicon balance spring and 60-hour power reserve.
It comes with a black and turquoise structured rubber strap with turquoise stitching and a black ceramic clasp. Alternatively, an additional rubber strap and two Nato straps are offered, all in complementary colours.
Price14,900 euro.
