Presented in 1938, the Prominente collection (named after the famous Cuban cigar) is 85 years old this year. To celebrate this anniversary, Cuervo y Sobrinos has presented a new version with a salmon dial. This shade complements those already in the catalogue, namely blue, black, silver-plated and dark brown.
In line with its predecessors, this new Prominente Doble Tiempo draws its design inspiration from Art Deco, which strongly influenced the architecture of Cuervo y Sobrinos' native Havana. However, for the launch of this model, the company has introduced minor improvements to the case design, including curved rather than straight sides.
This is a limited edition of only 138 pieces, sporting the aforementioned curved case typical of the collection, measuring 30.5 x 52 mm and 9.5 mm thick. The guilloché-engraved dial (protected by a curved, anti-reflective sapphire crystal) shows home time in the upper zone and local time (over 24 hours) in the lower zone.
The indications are entrusted to stylised Arabic numerals and blackened Breguet hands with Super-Luminova luminescent tips. The watch is available with a steel bracelet or a dark brown Louisiana crocodile strap.
Inside are two independent movements partially visible through the case back, closed with six screws. These are the calibres CYS 8125 and CYS 5025, derived respectively from the Sellita SW100 (28,800 vibrations per hour, 38-hour power reserve) and ETA 2671 (28,800 vibrations per hour, 44-hour power reserve), both self-winding and naturally equipped with two independent winding and regulating crowns, located on the right side of the case. Water resistance is guaranteed up to 3 atmospheres of pressure.
