A. Lange & Söhne creates a new version of the 1815 Rattrapante, offering one of the most fascinating complications in the field of chronography in its "simplest" execution and without any additional functions. Examples such as the Double Split of 2004, the first double split-seconds chronograph to allow comparative timekeeping of up to 30 minutes, or the Triple Split of 2018, which, based on the same principle, amplified the measurement range of the split-seconds function by a factor of 24 (from 30 minutes to 12 hours), are watches that demonstrate the company's great expertise in mastering this speciality.
Entirely focused on the pure split-seconds chronograph, the 1815 Rattrapante in platinum follows the 100 'Homage to F. A. Lange" of 2020 in Honeygold alloy and black dial, with which Lange celebrated the 175th anniversary of Saxon haute horlogerie. Once again, this is a limited edition, but to 200 pieces, in a more discreet design that combines platinum with a sober silver-plated dial in the purest tradition of the brand. The two split-seconds hands differ in finish: rhodium-plated steel for the chronograph, burnished steel for the split-seconds hand.
The movement is the manual calibre L101.2 with chrono functions by means of a column wheel, which configures the auxiliary dials on a vertical central axis (30 minutes and continuous seconds at 12 and 6 o'clock respectively), instead of the usual position at 3 and 9 o'clock. In the best Lange tradition, this is a top-notch mechanism that fascinates both from a technical point of view and for the particular beauty of the hand-made decorations.
