Hublot presents the Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic, a limited edition watch of 20 pieces and the first in the world available on the market to use multi-coloured ceramic.
Hublot marks a new chapter in the history of watchmaking with the launch of the Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic Limited Edition, the first watch in the world available on the market to be made of multi-coloured ceramic. This new model, in limited edition of only 20 pieces (a number also equivalent to the years of the Big Bang collection, launched in 2005), represents the culmination of more than four years of research and development by the company in the field of materials.
Hublot's 'Magic Ceramic', currently patent pending, sets new standards in the watchmaking industry. In fact, this material combines a dark grey ceramic base with deep blue rims, arranged in a pattern reminiscent of a contemporary work of art. The real innovation lies in the ability to maintain colour homogeneity during the complex firing and moulding processes. It should be recalled that last year, Audemars Piguet also presented a Royal Oak concept with a multi-coloured ceramic case and bezel with a camouflage pattern. However, being a prototype, the watch was not commercialised. Furthermore, the ceramic used in this concept watch was based on grey tones, and therefore cannot be considered multi-coloured for all intents and purposes.
About this new material, Mathias Buttet, Hublot's Research and Development Director, said: "I am extremely proud to see our team bring to life a material that perfectly embodies the spirit of Hublot: a fine blend of science, alchemy and joyful audacity. After more than four years of research, we have mastered the art of combining vivid patented colours, a true technical feat. Thanks to the creativity and talent of our young engineers, Hublot's scientific approach and innovative spirit will continue to amaze'.
Hublot Big Bang Unico Magic Ceramic: manufacture movement
Multicoloured ceramic is used for the bezel, which is fixed by six titanium screws with an 'H' shaped head.
The beating heart of the watch is the self-winding HUB1280 manufacture chronograph movement with flyback function, entirely developed and produced in the Hublot workshops. With a 72-hour power reserve and a frequency of 4 Hz, this calibre is visible from both the dial side and the back, which is fitted with a sapphire crystal porthole.
Speaking of the dial, the latter shows chrono minutes (at 3 o'clock), continuous seconds (at 9 o'clock) and a date window (between 4 and 5 o'clock). The chrono seconds, in the centre, are indicated by a wire hand with a counterweight in the shape of the Maison's logo. Hands and indexes (Arabic numerals and bar) are SuperLuminova luminescent.
The 42 mm polished ceramic case is guaranteed water-resistant to a pressure of 10 atmospheres (100 metres) and is combined with a rubber strap with a folding clasp. The latter is equipped with a quick-change system, thanks to the two push-buttons located at 6 and 12 o'clock on the case (the so-called Hublot's One Click System).
