Hublot dedicates a new and very special Big Bang Unico to the Serbian champion, brand ambassador since 2021.
The new Hublot Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic naturally draws inspiration from the sporting achievements of the Serbian tennis player, winner of no fewer than 24 Grand Slam tournaments (an absolute record), as well as the last Olympics in Paris 2024. With this triumph, Djokovic made history as the 5th tennis player to complete the Golden Slam, winning all four Grand Slam tournaments and the Olympic gold medal in singles.
The House of Nyon, well known for its mastery in the use of innovative materials in its watches, this time Djokovic's Head racquets and Lacoste polo shirts were used to make the 42 mm matte blue case. In particular, the company developed a composite made from 25 Head racquets and 17 dark blue and 15 light blue Lacoste polo shirts used by Djokovic during the 2023 season, the very year he made tennis history by breaking all records and winning his 24th Grand Slam singles title at the US Open. These materials were developed and used to make the watch as light as possible, without sacrificing robustness and strength.
Hublot makes a limited edition watch for Novak Djokovic
The new Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic is produced in only 100 pieces.
The composite that forms the case of the limited edition Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic is made of epoxy resin, reinforced with quartz powder and glass veil, which was fused with the aforementioned rackets and jerseys. The resulting material is studded with light and dark blue as well as charcoal black fabric fragments, which create a very distinctive camouflage pattern. This is a decidedly innovative approach, which testifies to Hublot's ambition to constantly reinvent itself.
In addition, Hublot has placed great emphasis on the lightness of the timepiece: the overall weight is between 49.5 and 75 grams, depending on which of the four straps is chosen.. Again with a view to weight reduction, instead of using the traditional sapphire crystal, the Swiss Maison chose the Tempered gorilla glass, material used in advanced electronics and twice as light as sapphire.
The Hublot Unico manufacture calibre
The movement has also been optimised in terms of weight.
The Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic is driven by the manufactory-made Unico calibre (28,800 vibrations per hour, 72-hour power reserve), mechanical automatic. However, in order to minimise the weight of the timepiece, the standard Unico movement in brass had to be reinvented. To this end, Hublot chose blue or grey anodised aluminium (known for its lightness) to echo the camouflage colour scheme of the case. Hublot's engineers were therefore able to reduce the movement weight of the 27%. Aluminium is also used for some of the case components, such as the side elements (3 and 9 o'clock), flange, lugs, pushers, crown and back.
The Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic has four straps, for four different styles. The first is a Lacoste' tennis band, which is attached to the till with the One Click system. The second is a blue elastic strap (in this configuration, the watch weighs just 49.5 gramsless than a tennis ball). The third is a strap with blue Velcro fastening, with a blue polished aluminium sports buckle. The last strap is in white rubberwith titanium folding clasp.
Finally, some details are a clear reference to the Serbian champion and the world of tennis, such as the chrono button at 2 o'clock in yellow, or the slightly convex and curved bezel screws, reminiscent of a tennis ball. Novak Djokovic's logo counterbalances the chrono seconds hand and also appears on the oscillating mass. The Novak Djokovic Unique Big Bang, in a limited edition of 100, is accompanied by a high-quality wooden box, from sustainable sources.
