Following the presentation of the first watch in early 2021, Hublot and Takashi Murakami are continuing their collaboration with the launch of the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow. This new watch, which also takes its cue from the smiling flower, an iconic theme in Murakami's works, replaces the black of the first model with colours and transparency effects. The Hublot workshop technicians have created a unique setting for this new model, namely a transparent background through which one can admire both the artist's work and the complex mechanics of the timepiece. Reflecting the typical characteristics of the Classic Fusion, the 45 mm diameter case is cut into the sapphire crystal, a technological innovation pioneered by Hublot in watchmaking. The flower displays a mischievous smile on a three-dimensional face that literally emerges from the dial of the watch and around which 12 coloured petals revolve. This polychrome effect was achieved by setting no fewer than 487 precious stones in the colours of the rainbow: rubies, pink sapphires, amethysts, blue sapphires, tsavorites, yellow sapphires and orange sapphires. Thanks to the ingenious ball-bearing system specially developed by Hublot engineers, the petals begin to rotate under the watch glass, animating Takashi Murakami's smiling flower. The watch, produced in a limited edition of just 100 pieces, is driven by the in-house HUB1214 calibre (256 components, 30 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour), which is visible from the back and guarantees a 72-hour power reserve.
