The Railroad Pocket Watch, a novelty launched by Hamilton, embodies the spirit of the brand's earliest watchmaking ingenuity: in the days of the first American railroads, in fact, the company was entrusted with the task of timing transport operations on the tracks, a role for which it won wide acclaim, earning it the title 'The Watch of Railroad Accuracy'.
To pay homage to this glorious past, the new pocket watch is offered in a limited edition of 917 pieces, a tribute to what was then the brand's headquarters: 917 Columbia Avenue - Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Enclosed in a 50 mm steel case, the white enamel-effect dial is reminiscent of the railway timepieces of the time, with red 5-minute markers along a fully graduated outer minute track, oversized Arabic numeral hour markers, black lacquered hands and a small seconds counter at 6 o'clock for precision timekeeping. Protecting it is a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment.
The closed back bears a special engraving of a train and the inscription '130th Anniversary Railroad Special', commemorating the thirteen decades since the company was founded in 1892.
At the heart of the watch is a hand-wound mechanical movement, ETA calibre 6497, with a 50-hour power reserve, while a removable chain and leather travel case complete the look.
