Characterised by a highly recognisable design, featuring a tonneau case with an octagonal bezel resting on a circular base, the Laureato from Girard-Perregaux was first launched in 1975. The first model was powered by an in-house quartz movement with Cosc certification: it was the 705 calibre. Recently, the House of La Chaux-de-Fonds launched a new, exclusive version, featuring a 42 mm pink gold case, combined with a bracelet made of the same precious metal or a black alligator strap, both with a pink gold triple folding clasp.
The Maison has equipped this new Laureato with a beautiful hand-crafted black onyx dial. This material benefits from the expertise of the most skilled craftsmen, who shape and polish it by hand. In fact, the creation of an onyx dial requires no less than 15 different operations, and the end result is a perfect, mirror-polished surface. On the same dial, protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, are the hands (gold-plated) and baton hour markers, as well as the GP logo positioned at 12 o'clock (the latter elements mentioned are made of gold) and the date window at 3 o'clock.
The movement used is the manufactory-made GP01800-1404 calibre (diameter 30 mm, thickness 3.97 mm, 191 components, 28,800 vib/h, power reserve of at least 54 hours), mechanical with automatic winding and finely decorated. The decorations concern the plate (with circular graining), the bridges (with a linear côtes de Genève motif) and the rotor (with a circular côtes de Genève motif). The movement itself is visible through the sapphire glass porthole on the back. Water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 5 atmospheres.
Price54,500 euros (version with pink gold bracelet).
