Sponsor of the WinteRace since 2017, Girard-Perregaux presented a special Laureato dedicated to the motor racing.
From 13 to 15 March, Cortina d'Ampezzo hosted the WinteRace Cortina, a regularity race where classic cars, some dating back 70 years, and 'Icon' cars covered 460 km in two days. Since 2017, Girard-Perregaux is a sponsor of this competition. This was the eighth year that the Swiss brand has supported the car show and, to celebrate this milestone, it created a special edition model: the Laureato Skeleton WinteRace Edition.
The new Laureato Skeleton WinteRace Edition retains the iconic shape of the case (in this case 42 mm in diameter) and the octagonal bezel that have characterised this model for 50 years (the first Laureato was made in 1975), but introduces the use of black ceramic, material seven times harder than steel. Ceramic gives the watch lightness, resistance to scratches and an intense black colour that does not fade over time.
Girard-Perregaux: the Laureate for the WinteRace
The watch is powered by the skeleton manufacture calibre GP01800.
The skeleton GP01800 calibre (28,800 alternations per hour, power reserve of at least 54 hours, pink gold skeleton rotor) is the beating heart of this timepiece. Its design reveals usually hidden components, such as the barrel, which shows the mainspring in different states of tension, the balance and the anchor that engages with the escapement wheel. The hands and indexes, in shades of pink gold, glow green in the dark, ensuring legibility in all light conditions. The movement is visible from both the dial side and the back, thanks to the use of two sapphire crystals.
Girard-Perregaux also enriched this timepiece with manual finishing of the highest level. The movement, for example, has 55 internal angles that are technically complex to make and necessarily require manual workmanship. The plate and bridges, with black Pvd treatment, display four different finishes: chamfering, sandblasting, traits-tirés and circular satin-finishing.
This calibre is also equipped with a variable-inertia balance, an advanced technical solution that improves shock resistance and, consequently, chronometric accuracy. Water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 10 atmospheres and the bracelet is also made of black ceramic.
