Gerald Charles presents the Maestro 4.0 Ducati 30° Anniversary 916, a tribute to 30 years of the Ducati 916.
Gerald Charles launches the Maestro 4.0 Ducati 30° Anniversary 916 (Ref. GC4.0-CF-11), created in collaboration with the famous Italian motorbike manufacturer Ducati. This watch celebrates the 30th° anniversary of the legendary Ducati 916 motorbike. In line with the Maison's hallmarks, the watch employs the iconic Maestro case (39 x 41.9 mm), made of carbon fibre forged black marbled, combined with a vulcanised rubber strap in Ruby Red. The bezel is ceramic, the case back and strap buckle are Grade 5 titanium. Water resistance is guaranteed up to 10 atmospheres.
Produced in 'a limited edition of only 250 pieces, the new Maestro 4.0 Ducati 30° Anniversario 916 was born from the joint vision of the CEOs of the two brands, namely Federico Ziviani (CEO of Gerald Charles) and Claudio Domenicali (CEO of Ducati). Both companies have an important artistic legacy behind them from their respective designers: Gérald Charles Genta and Massimo Tamburini. The watch therefore celebrates design as an artistic expression of both worlds, combining the precision of watchmaking with the typical fervour of motorcycling.
Gerald Charles Maestro 4.0 Ducati 30° Anniversary 916: limited edition of 250 pieces
The two companies collaborated in the creation of this exclusive timepiece with a pop-up display.
"We are very proud of the result of this collaboration with Gerald Charles. Together we have created an exceptional watch that celebrates an authentic icon, the Ducati 916. The work of the Design Centres started with a clear idea in mind and proceeded to overcome any technical and aesthetic complexity that presented itself. This approach only adds even more value to a high quality object that, from the first glance, reflects the values shared by Ducati and Gerald Charles: passion, art and attention to detail"said Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati.
Of note is the fact that for the first time in over 13 years, Gerald Charles reintroduced the jumping hour complication (also known as 'a saltarello'), and one of Gérald Charles Genta's most iconic complications. This watch is the evolution of the historic Gerald Charles jumping hours watch, the Maestro 39, designed and produced before 2011 by Mr. Genta himself, when he was designer-in-chief of the Maison.
A new manufacture movement
The Master 4.0 Ducati 30° Anniversary 916 uses the new IWC-manufactured calibre GCA 3002JH, with jumping hours.
The movement used is the new manufacture calibre GCA 3002JH (28,800 vibrations per hour, 50-hour power reserve), mechanical with automatic winding. The Master 4.0 Ducati 30° Anniversary 916 is the first skeleton watch with jumping hours by Gerald Charles: Note, from the quadrant side the golden jumping hour disc, which echoes the design of the three-spoke bronze alloy wheels of the Ducati 916.
"To create this watch, we faced many challenges in terms of design and realisation, especially in terms of weight balance. Initially, the disc was unbalanced due to the different weight of numbers. We had to develop a system with a circular black line in the upper outer area, so that all the numbers were held together by two lines, the inner and the outer line. In this way, although the numbers appear to be on the dial, the numbers, the central wheel and the outer line are actually connected by a large rotating disc', said Octavio Garcia, head of the creative team at Gerald Charles.
The back with sapphire glass porthole opens up the movement bridges and the gilded rotor, embellished with the Ducati 916 logo. In addition, exclusively for Ducati enthusiasts who have purchased the Panigale V4 SP2 30th Anniversary 916, it is possible to engrave the bike's serial number on the back of the watch. Finally, a lithographic sketch of the watch designed by Octavio Garcia is supplied with each piece.
