The Garmin Beat Yesterday Awards 2022 took place on 1 December, the awards with which Garmin Italia has been celebrating the protagonists of extraordinary sporting feats for seven years. Prominent names from the Italian sports and entertainment scene also took to the stage, such as Antonella Palmisano (Olympic champion at Tokyo 2020), Filippo Ganna (cycling world champion) and Simone Moro (mountaineer and record holder for the first winter ascent of an eight-thousand metre peak), Olympic track cycling gold medallist Elia Viviani, sailing world champion Federico Michetti, national track cycling team coach Marco Villa, radio presenters Linus and Frank Lotta, Sky face Davide Camicioli, Mediaset voice Andrea Berton and singer Ghemon. A very special prize-winner was "Lo Squalo" Vincenzo Nibali.
Garmin Italia's Beat Yesterday Awards celebrate extraordinary stories in the company's reference sectors - from cycling to running, from outdoor to automotive, passing through fitness, triathlon and boating. Stories lived and fulfilled not so much by well-known sports faces, but rather by ordinary people who have put themselves to the test to achieve an unprecedented sporting goal. At Villa Necchi Campiglio, in Milan, the awards ceremony was therefore staged for people who have decided to experiment, exceed their limits and rediscover themselves in sport. "Seven years of Beat Yesterday Awards means seven years of incredible stories and tales, to which Garmin has given an extraordinary voice, a voice they would not otherwise have had. We like to think that the spotlights on the Beat Yesterday stage never go out, that the stories continue to be told and that the protagonists carry them on day after day, even once the party is over,' commented Stefano Viganò, CEO of Garmin Italia.
In particular, the winners of the 2022 edition of the Garmin Beat Yesterday Awards were: Laura Broglio, a tenacious mother who turned her passion (driving trucks) into her job, in a notoriously male-dominated field; Cristina Nuti, the first Italian suffering from multiple sclerosis to complete an Ironman; Davide Pescuma, who despite two serious injuries managed to join the Luna Roissa team as a plumbing manager; Marcello Villani, who after winning two Tor des Géants ultra trail races devoted himself to mountaineering by climbing a 7.000 metres; and Sabrina Schillaci, who had to cope with the therapy that tragically struck her husband and became an ultracyclist and professional coah. Finally, Stefano Viganò and Vincenzo Nibali awarded Dr. Oreste Gentilini, Head of the Breast Unit at San Raffaele Hospital and President of EUBREAST Italy ETS, for his commendable commitment to scientific research against breast cancer.
